Are we allowed to connect registers to the controller? i.e Reg C to the new state we’re adding

The register resides in the datapath.
So if you connect it to the control, do you change the datapath?
is that allowed in the question?!
With my understanding it doesn’t change the datapath but only the controller which is fine (as i’m adding new state and therefore doesn’t disrupt other commands…
